I was reminded by several recent emails on the list -
I've noticed a number of families who moved from Delaware County in the first
half of 1800s to (Tioga it was then) Chemung Co, NY. There's an excellent
website for research http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/jmtindex.htm
list at PABRADFO-D-request(a)rootsweb.com. (And our http://www.dcnyhistory.org/
There is also a new minisink email list but it stops at the Sullivan-Delaware
line. Every resource helps!
My Prudence COOK moved to Chemung 1818 as wife of John McKINNEY from Orange Co.
Other Chemung intermarriages found were with SCHOONMAKER/SHOEMAKER and McKEE,
maybe BARNES, THOMAS. I've learned that some same families worked lumbering one
side or the other (NY-PA) of the Delaware River, and some of each migrated
early to Chemung. Check out censuses, depending on when, Northhampton, Wayne
and Pike Counties, PA, across the river and down to Pt Jervis.
William STEWART, son of Elam, married Almira Cook, daughter of Pru's brother
Daniel, in Delaware County - but they didn't migrate to Chemung. I am
William's brothers, don't know much about them, esp Clinton. The brothers
appear to have been Clinton (m Harriet unk), Marshall (m a Harriet unk, also)
and died 1862-4 CW, and Alexander (m Elanor unk). (ALEXANDER - do you suppose
that was their unknown mother's surname?!) Sisters, I only know of crippled Ada
who apparently never married.
