Re: Jacob Craft
Jacob Craft came to Delaware County following earlier residences in Westchester and
Dutchess(the part of Dutchess which may now be part of Putnam County) where at least his
older children were born.
There are 10 or fewer Craft families active in Westchester County during the 18th century.
Some were loyalists who fled to Canada after the Revolution.
There is a Jacob Craft mentioned in the NYGBS copies of the ledgers of Dr.Cornelis from
Westchester/Dutchess in the 1790's, as well as a Jacob Craft involved in the Methodist
Church foundation in North Castle.
Some Craft researchers suggest that most of the Westchester Crafts derive from
Thornycrafts who settled in Oyster Bay on LI in the 1600's and spread west to Queens
Effie Mabey(Mabie)clearly is connected to the well known and documented Mabey family, no
one is quite sure yet which branch.
