I haven't used WordPerfect since the DOS days, but I might
offer a suggestion. Make sure that when you save your
file you save it in the correct format. Both WordPerfect
and Microsoft Word will save documents in various formats
including ascii (.txt), rich text format (.rtf) and so on.
They will also save in formats to be used with other word
processing programs and with prior versions of the same
If you save in the wrong format both Word and WordPerfect
will convert from the current format to the requested
format, then when you re-open the file the program will
convert the file back. These conversions can cause some
of the problems you indicated -especially if one of the
conversions contains features or fonts not supported by
one of the formats.
Also make sure that you you have a full program
installation. Not including conversion files in your
installation can cause problems when you want to do
something out of the ordinary like cutting and pasting
from scanned documents.
