I noticed your willingness to help getting death certificates from NYS. For
years I have been frustrated with the long waits for copies of certificates --
even when I've gone to Albany and looked up all of the reference numbers!
What you outlined sounds great! How much do you charge for looking up
reference numbers and ordering the forms?
Last July I looked up dozens of entries in the index in Albany and sent the
forms in (I didn't realize I could just drop them off) -- it took 5-6 months
(the forms just arrived a couple of weeks ago). Having the forms (and the
information!) in just a couple of weeks would be fantastic. I have a couple
of certificates I'm anxious to get to provide proof of a working theory.
Like you, I'm from the Binghamton area (I was born in Johnson City). My
father was born in Delhi, as was his father, but his family moved to Whitney
Point during the depression. I live in Washington, DC now and can't get to
Albany to do research as often as I would like.
I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks.

Hi Mike -- Second best to dropping off the certificate requests in Albany
is making your requests directly to the jurisdiction in which the death
(or whatever) occurred. We've gotten results anywhere from 2 weeks to 2
months from the 3 or 4 city or township offices we've contacted. Good
luck! Jayne and Art
