Good morning to all,
Frustration is the root of this email. I found out last week through the
news paper that a 1784 home on main street margaretville is slated for
demolition this friday. I blame myself for not keeping up on the "news" so
to speak, had I known earlier I might have been able to do something. I'm
making phone calls and hopefully I will get somewhere today with Shawn Galvin
The home was lived in up to a month ago when it was part of a buy out. My
understanding is that NYC owns the land and the county through fema owns the
homes and that it's the countys responsibility to demolish the homes on lower
main street that were sold. They are in a flood plane and fema won't pay to
have them repaired.
This may be common sense to some, but this home is 215 years old, it's still
there floods or not!!
My goal is to save the home and have it moved to another site and have it be
a history center for the town of middletown, chances are slim at this late
date, this is my frustration, 215 years of history is about to go out, you
can only loose it once. It's an absolute shame that some folks just don't
see what they're giving up, the future is based on the past. At the rate our
past is being destroyed I wonder what the future holds!
Thank you for letting me air my frustration. Hopefully today the God of
common sense will hit someone and the house will be preserved for us all to
