Holiday Greetings to all,
I've made my new years resolution early and since I love pastry and chocolate
so much dieting isn't it!!
I've been on my Stevens quest for years and am only a few steps further than
when I started, so this is the year to find the missing links. Some of the
links are in Delaware county, some in Sullivan and from what I've been told
around Pompton Lakes New Jersey. Quite an area to cover.
A few weeks ago while looking through the census records of Hancock for my
husbands Roses, I stumbled upon Minnie Stevens and my grandfather James
(first time we've found him on a census). Minnie is his mother, anyway
listed with them is Josiah stevens who was 65, minnie was 32 and James was
6(?) this was the 1900 census. From there Minnie went to colchester where
she lived for many years, and married Ira ward. WE still don't know where
she's buried, or when she died. Josiah we figure is minnies father in law,
as we believe her husbands name was Joseph. the family bible also has an
edith stevens and an eli josiah stevens, no dates. Confused?? we sure are-
every family has a mystery but this is crazy!!!
The theory that people didn't move about as much in the olden days as we do
today is hogwash!! We have lived in the same town since 1983, other than 3
years in the service. None of our relatives have been anywhere that long!!!
Anyway hope everyone is successful with their resolutions, Happy and a very
safe New Year to all.
