I'm sorry that people have been clogging up the list with repetitions of my
note and Cliff's response. (It's very EASY to copy and paste, rather than
repeat again and again). This is what I wrote Cliff off list:

Snyders were Palatines, but I'm pretty sure they must have been. I'm still
digging away to find Cyrus' parents.
I'll have to take a look at that Palatine naming system website, even
though you are skeptical. My Chapmans were, of course, English, although
the Anglo-Saxon derivation eventually does come from German, but not the
modern German Kaufmann. It's much farther back than that.
Thanks for the other websites. When I get a chance, I'll check them out.
Years ago I'd copied an article (from NEHGR?? too lazy to get up and check
it out right now) on Naming Patterns in New England. But again, the
patterns don't always follow through, even quite early on. Guess there
were always those who rebelled against the status quo, eh??
