I am researching the families of James WARFIELD and Christopher YOUNG that lived in the
Claverack area from abt 1855. The patriarchs in both families were farmers, with the
children farming, working in mills and on the railroad. At the moment, I have hit a wall
trying to trace either family earlier than 1850 - 1860.
I checked the NY state library newspaper project
) and found they filmed papers from Chatham,
Hillsdale, Hudson, Kinderhook, New Lebanon, Philmont and Valatie for late 1800's and
From my understanding of the area, Hillsdale and Philmont are the
closest towns to Claverack, with Hudson also nearby.
Has anyone had any experience researching papers from that era? What are my chances that
an obituary or other article would appear for an individual? Any suggestions on which
papers I should try first?
Thanks for any help.
