Bernadette Schaaf gave me permission to post her transcription of the Log of the
Rensselaerswyck, a ship that sailed from Amsterdam to Fort Orange (Albany) in 1636-1637.
Storm Van der Zee was born off the coast of Spain aboard this ship. The ship had to turn
back and anchor in England because of the unfavorable winds and high waves. In January
they started out again and made it to New Amsterdam (New York City) on March 4, but were
delayed because the Hudson River was closed to traffic due to ice. Three weeks later,
they began a 12 day trip up the river.
The Log was previously posted on her Dutch Apple website.
