I had noticed alot of queries lately about Kings' District, aka New Lebanon,
Canaan & Chatham. I have a pamphlet that was published by the Canaan
Historical Society for the bicentennial that mentions a great many names. Of
course, it is nowhere near being a primary source, but it might be a starting
point for someone.
As far as I know, it has never been indexed. I started working on an index
today. It took about an hour to do 13 pages, including setting up the
database. If I get a sense that enough people are interested, I will
continue and will post the index as it progresses. Today I covered the
pre-Revolutionary period and the names that came up included WHITING, WARNER,
MUDGE, ANDROSS, FRISBIE, DOUGLASS, WATERMAN, JOHNSON, SMITH, KING,
VANDERPOEL, CURTISS, and many others.
I am also planning an expedition to Canaan this summer with the intention of
investigating the Flat Brook cemetary. I can also do specific lookups in the
main cemetary if you let me know ahead of time.
Any interest in these things?
