I just got back home to NJ after an exciting weekend researching the
PROPER's in Columbia County. Mary Howell was a wonderful help! She
indicated that some of the PROPER's made "Taghkanic Baskets" which they
learned how to weave from the indians when they first immigrated from
Germany. It was passed down through the generations. I am wondering if
anyone has additional information on this. I assume they were the
Mohawks, but would love to find out more about this. Please contact me
if you have any information. Thanks.
