I would appreciate some advice on how to go about obtaining death
information on an ancestor who, according to the SSDI, probably died in
New Lebanon NY on 23 April 1998.
Most of my research is in the NYC area via the Municipal Archives, and I
do know that for NY State you deal with either Albany (which I am told
takes forever) or the local clerk. I have gone to the Columbia County
page and would like to know if its best to contact the New Lebanon
office/clerk for a death certificate or the county clerk in Hudson.
This is for my step-grandfather, and any advice from those who have
obtained information from either clerk would be appreciated. Technically
I suppose I wouldn't be able to get this certificate, but again, would
appreciate any advice.
Would also like to know what newspapers an obituary for him might have
been in. This person was "missing" from our family for many years, and
we have only now discovered him on the SSDI and are anxious to find out
where he died, is buried and any information we can.
Edwin BLOMGREN died 23 Apil 1998 according to the SSDI. I have obtained
his SS5 form to confirm this is the correct person.
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
