Sue, (et all)
I have in my ancestry a Jonathan Chapman (1749 - 1827) who was the father of
an Olive Chapman (1782 - 1816) who married Isaac Rowland. This is my line.
In Jonathan's will, he mentions 5 other daughters (Cynthia, Rhodey, Ann,
Prudence, and Diantha).. He also mentions 3 sons (Richard, James B., and
Peter) Perhaps one of these could be the father of your Nathaniel?? He also
had another son Isaac Chapman who wasn't in the will. He died in 1811. I do
not know if this Isaac married, but if he had children, they were not
mentioned in Jonathon's will. Jonathan lived in the Chatham area. I see on
my map that New Lebanon is just east of Chatham. Hmmm!
There is also a William Chapman in Columbia Co. who died in 1818.. I have no
idea how he is connected. At the time I didn't write down if there were any
names in this will (wish I had now!), but I did manage to write down that he
was from Sharon, Litchfield Co. Ct.
Both of these wills are at the County Court House in Hudson. I didn't notice
any other wills for the name "Chapman" in early Columbia County.
Hope this helps...
