I have been researching the Lay Family for over ten years. My line
starts with John Lay Sr. (Squire) b. 1610 in England, through his oldest
son John b. 1633, (by his first wife). Then into Columbia County, N.Y.
when Joseph and Marcy (Deming) Lay moved there just before the Rev.
War. Their son Edward, b. 1762 served in Rev. War. and his wife Patta
Sutherland received a land bounty for her husbands service.
Edward accompanied his older brother Rev. Samuel Lay to the area of
Seneca County of N.Y. in the area now known as Bridgeport, on the shores
of Cayuga Lake, where he helped build a log house for Samuel's wife and
9 children. They returned to Columbia County, where Edward remained and
Rev. Samuel Lay took his family back to Seneca County.
This family was well represented then and still has ancestors living in
the area. They were responsible for what was known as Laystown, on the
western edge of the Montezuma Swamp. Today there still remains Lay Road
and the old Marblestone house, and schoolhouse, both in good repair with
people living in them.
There son John moved to Wayne County after the death of his first wife
Ruth Crandall, He, along with his second wife Lucy Cornwell Fowler,
sons Ezra and Russell are buried in the Newark Cemetery, North Main St.
Newark, Wayne Co., N.Y.

There you may download a GedCom file. Please e-mail me when you do. I
would like to know who else is researching these Lay lines, also if you
find anything that you question, PLEASE contact me so we can talk about
it and try to get things straight (meaning that there are mistakes, we
all have them).
I also have information on John (Squire) Lay Sr's. brother Robert Lay,
family and some of that line. Would appreciate any and all information
pertaining to these lines.
Hope to hear from some of you.
