Looking for information concerning the VanALEN family of Kinderhook. One of
their homes was The Gables, a 1000 acre farm in Kinderhook, New York. The
house was originally built in 1721 by the VanAlen family, and an addition
added in 1924. It was called "The Gables." The Carriage House at the Gables
was a speak-easy during the 1920s. The current owners have restored much of
the property and are running a B&B operation there.
Apparently the VanAlens primary home was in downtown Kinderhook and it is
listed in several historic-homes-of-New York references, and it may be
officially a historic site. I am interested in the family history of the
VanAlen's at the time of The Gables, 1721.
Is anyone working this family? Peter
