According to others that have worked on this family, John W. & Charity had a son
Benson born 1812 who died in 1846. The Benson born in 1836 is obviously a
different fellow, probably an older cousin of Norman's.
The question of Charity's parents is pretty straightforward. The three baptisms
I found for sons Levi, Stephen and Harry all have Rase/Rees sponsors, siblings
of Charity (called Gertruyd in the records):
West Copake Ref. Ch. -
Levi b. 28 Aug 1808, sp. Andrew Robinson , Leinty Rase
Stephen b. 8 Feb 1810, sp.William Turner, Margaret Rase
St. Thomas Luth. Churchtown:
Harry bt. 6 Mar 1812, b. 26 Jan, sp. Teunis Rees, Hannah Decker
The only Rees couple with children with these four names is Benjamin Rees and
Anna Maria Snook:
Linlithgo Ref. Ch. - Teunis bt. 26 Dec 1779, Lyntje bt. 14 Apr 1782, b. 22 Mar;
West Copake Ref. - Annatje bt. 24 Oct 1784, b. 25 Sep; Gertruyd bt. 18 Apr 1790,
Claverack Ref. Ch. - Gritje bt. 6 Jan 1788, b.29 Nov.
This confirms what others have posted on various trees. Benjamin (1752-1832), a
Revolutionary veteran, is the son of Cornelius Rees 1718 & his wife (and cousin)
Lyntje Rees 1719. Anna Maria (bt. 4 Dec 1757 Red Hook Luth.) was the daughter
of Palatine immigrant Johann Anthonius/Teunis Snook (b. 1716 in Nordhofen,
Hesse) & Anna Schaffer 1722.

Subject: [NYCOLUMB] Norman Turner, son of John W. Turner and Charity Rase
I am pleased that I was able to obtain a death certificate for an
ancestor Norman Turner who died in 1894 in Niverville. So now I am
seeking information about his parents, John W. Turner and Charity
(Gertruyd) Rase. I see that there is a baptism for a John Turner born
is 1790 whose parents are Wilhelmus Turner and Gertruyd Decker, so that
is a possibility. If that were true then John would have been about 18
when maybe his first child- Levi- was born in 1808. What gives me pause
is that in 1905 Norman's daughter Mary in the census has an "uncle"
Benson Turner living with her and his birthdate is around 1835.
Assuming all this is accurate it seems like a long time span for John
and Charity to be having children. From cemetery-Methodist Episcopal in
Copake-I found that Charity died in 1869 at the age of 79 making her
birthday also 1790. So she would be bearing a child at age 45.
Using a Cliff Lamere site about the Rees/Race family I have a couple
possibles as parents for Charity but no conclusions drawn yet.
So is there someone who has information about John W. Turner and Charity
Rase that they are willing to share? Thank you
