The Social Security Death Index:
Nell Paro, born 4 May 1908, died Dec 1985. Her SSN, 517-07-3653 was issued in Montana
before 1951. "Last Residence:" Ely White Pine County, Nevada.
--The "last residence" on the SSDI is NOT necessarily where a person actually
lived or died. The Social Security Administration calls it simply the "home of
record," and possibly the address where correspondence by the SSA was sent. It is
not necessarily where any benefit was paid to the person, survivor, or the lumpsum death
benefit (in years past, it was paid to anyone paying burial expenses, family member,
funeral home, city/county, attorney; today, a living spouse). It is sometimes the
location where the notification of death was sent to the SSA, sometimes where the lump sum
death benefit was sent.
---So, basically, she may not have lived or died in Ely, correspondence may have been to a
family member, etc.
--Her application for her SSN (SS-5)would show the name of parents, husband (at the time
of the application).
US City Directories show a Nell H. Paro living in St Paul, Minnesota in 1941; and a Mrs.
Nell H. Paro living in Butte, Montana in 1955.
--The Butte listing shows here as being a caseworker at te County Welfare Department, home
100 1/2 E. 2d.
Before you PAY to have an obituary search, you would first need to identify where they
actually lived and died. A location of death in a database also does not identify where a
person actually lived.
I checked the White Pine County Recorder's Office for records, but they have no online
records. These would usually show if a person had property, any power-of-attorneys being
filed, etc. I did check the Assessor's office record for last name of
"Paro" with negative results. The White Pine County District Court does not
have online records (civil records such as divorce, probate, etc).
The "Correct" link to the Northeastern Nevada Genealogy Society:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nvnengs/
(the other poster has continuous problems posting correct links). This Society does not
appear to have much information.
There was a White Pine Historical & Archeological Society, but it became inactive
in 2008. There does not seem to be any documentation of value in this site, but will
provide it anyway:
http://www.webpanda.com/white_pine_county/historical_society/index.html
I did a number of other searches in an attempt to identify further information, husband,
children, etc. But, there does not seem to be much on this person. They probably married
after the 1930 census, or perhaps married others prior. Since she was in Montana in 1955
and only shown as "Mrs" in the City Directory, it "appears" her
husband passed/divorced/separated long before her death in 1985. I have seen SSDI records
showing a name in the records (such as hers) only to find the person had married again,
but the SSA only identified the recorded name within the SSDI.
(The SSDI is not even a product of the SSA, it is a copy of the SSA's Death Master
File, sold to companies such as
Ancestry.com. A lot of records are now being removed for
"privacy" reasons).
