Charlotte Knight Succumbs Here Wednesday p.m.
Mrs. Charlotte Knight, a resident of Ely for 43 years, died at a local
hospital Wednesday from ailments incident to old age. The pioneer resident
of this community was 88 years of age.
Fairly active until her last illness, she was taken to the hospital from
the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lottie Anderson, about 10 days ago.
A native of St. Austell, Cornwall, England, she was born Sept. 4, 1862.
At the age of 21 she came to the United States in 1883, and was married
to Edwin Knight on Aug. 4 of that year, the wedding taking place at Calumet,
Mich. Mr. Knight died in 1898, at the age of 39.
With her four sons she came to this district in 1907, and had made her
home here since that time. One son, Charles H. Knight preceded her in death
in this city 19 years ago.
For the past few years she had been making her home with her daughter.
Surviving her besides Mrs. Anderson are three sons, Edwin L. Knight, Detroit,
Mich., William T. Knight, McGill, and E. A. Knight of Half Moon Bay, Calif.
Twelve grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren also survive.
Mrs. Knight had been a member of the Ely lodge of Rebekahs for more than
30 years, and was also a member of the American legion Auxiliary.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Frank Bradley
and the Rebekah lodge in charge of the last rites.
