Ely Couple Meet Death in Shooting.
Ely - Domestic strife culminated in a double tragedy here Friday, with a young couple -
married less then three months - dead of gunshot wounds.
Found dead were David Arndt, 21, and his wife Sylvia, 25.
White Pine County Sheriff Archie Robinson said it was an apparent murder and suicide.
He said it appeared that Arndt shot his wife with a 12 gague shotgun and then turned the
gun on himself. Each was shot in the head.
Coroner Eli Evasovic has not yet issued a formal ruling.
The sheriff said officers had been called to the home by a neighbor who had heard the
couple arguing. Coroner Evasovic said that Mrs. Arndt had filed for divorce Oct. 15 and
had obtained a restraining order to keep Arndt from the couples house, but the order had
been removed several days ago when the Arndts were apparently reconciled.
They had been married in Eureka, Nev., August 16. Arndt was a machinist at the copper
pit in nearby Ruth and Sylvia was a card dealer at a casino in Ely. They had
no children. Ardnt is survived by his mother, Della Arndt and sister Carol Arndt, both of
Ely. Sylvia Arndt is survived by two children from her first marriage, Joseph 5, and
Gregory Gallio 3, who live with their father in Lovelock. Sylvia was formerly married to
Jack Gallio Jr., of Lovelock, but they were divorced in 1964. Evansovic said. The
shootings occured about 10.30 a.m. Friday.
You might try contacting the sheriffs office or the coroners office in Ely and see what
they might have to say about where the records are and where she might have been sent for
burial.
I know its sad for a family member to have to read something like this but it give you
clues and maybe it will trigger someones memory and you might get a photo.
Regards, Arline in Reno
