1930 census Nevada, Washoe County, Reno, Nevada
Hughes, William age 49 born about 1881 in Wales they own a home and have a radio.
He is a carpenter of buildings
Bessie age 37, wife born in Missouri Married about 18/19 years.
Kenneth L age 15 born in Nevada, Howard C age 12 born in Nevada.
William is in the WW1 draft September 1918. Born 9 January 1881 and age 39. He is medium
height and build, Gray eyes and light hair. He is a carpenter. Wife is Bessie Hughes.

William Hughes of 315 Clay St. died in a local hospital today. Mr. Hughes was born in
North Wales, Jan. 9, 1881, and came to the United States in 1900 and settled in Reno in
1905. Employed as a carpenter for 50 years until his retirement five years ago, he was a
charter memeber of the Caprenters Union Local No. 971, having joined in 1906.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Bessie Hughes; two sons, Kenneth L. Hughes and Howard C.
Hughes; two grandchildren: William T. Hughes and Christiane Hughes all of Reno; three
sisters in North Wales and numberous nieces and nephews.
Funeral survices Friday at the First Methodist church. burial will be in Mountain View
cemetery.

Funeral services for Bessie Hughes, 72, will be conducted Friday. She died Tuesday in a
local hospital following an extended illness.
A widow, she was a native of LaBelle, Mo., and was a resident of Reno for 65 years. In
1913 she married William Hughes in Reno, He died in 1960. Mrs. Hughes is survived by her
sons, Kenneth and Howard, and two grandchildren, Cilliam and chris, all of Reno, A sister
Mrs. Irenew Lewis, Calinas, Calif. and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be in the
Mountain View Cemetery.
Remember: census records and obits can be off on some dates.
Ancestry.com has a passport application for him and Bessie. Dated April 30th 1919. There
is a picture of him and Bessie. Attached to the application is a letter from sister Mary,
telling about his parents. Passport application said he is visiting his aged parents.
