years.
It is with deep regret that we chronicle the death in Adin of our old time
friend, Adin G. McDowell. Twenty-three years ago, we made the acquaintance
of Mr. and Mrs. McDowell and at whose board we found, as a stranger in a
strange country, a welcome home. Adin seems extraordinarily unlucky this
winter in the loss, by death, of her citizens.
R. L. Nichols and Nora E. Kresge, two popular young people of this place,
were married Sunday, May 7, 1899, at the residence of the bride’s parents,
Mr. and Mrs. John Kresge, of Gouger Neck, Rev. Perks, of Adin, administering
the mystic words that made two hearts vibrate as one. Miss Nora is one of
Modoc County’s schoolteachers and stands well in the profession, being
bright, intelligent and well deserving. Dick is honest, industrious and
capable of fighting the full-fraught battles of life to an issue. Weal or
woe, they will tread life’s battle ground with a soldier’s resolute step;
when daylight is blended with darkness, when adversity and prosperity are at
variance, Dick and Nora will be found “To the front,” defying the downfalls,
pitfalls and the phantoms of tomorrow; their little bark will glide down the
river of time calmly and serenely, with love and courage as their pilot,
while the coy moon peeps over the dreaming hills and the vigils cheer their
exuberant lives on to proclaim, “ come sur, come shower”. The happy twain
moved the same evening to their home in Lookout, and to show the esteem, in
which, they were held, we note the following presents:
Mrs. E. P. Miller, rocker; Mr. and Mrs. Ira S. Cannon, table linen; Mrs.
Eastman, set of berry spoons; Mrs. R. J. Butts, set of silver teaspoons;
Mrs. and Mrs. W. Green, silver cake basket; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lorenz,
sheets and cake; Roy, Will and Gussie Miller, work basket; Harry Roberts,
hanging lamp; Claude and Jessie Brown, stand lamp; Orrin Trowbridge, berry
plates and sauce dishes; R. M. Cannon, set of picture frames; Rev. Perks,
marriage certificate; Jervis Kresge, milch cow; Alice Fulcher, mirror;
George Kresge, clock.

who will make this place their future home.

Dollarhide’s mother, Mrs. Gould.
ASHLEY – PERKISS NUPTIALS
A quiet wedding took place at the residence of Mrs. W. W. Walker, at
Colusa, Sunday, April 30, the contracting parties being W. E. Ashley and
Miss Alice Perkiss, both of Chico.
The parlor was tastefully decorated with smilax and orange blossoms. At
fifteen minutes after nine, the wedding party entered the parlor to the
strains of Mendelsohns wedding march taking their place under a wedding bell
composed of orange blossoms and smilax.
The bride was attired in white vignette, tastefully trimmed in point lace
and taffeta ribbon, the groom in the usual black.
The Episcopal ceremony, that made the two young people one, was read by
Rev. W. J. O’Brien. At the close of the ceremony, the guests were invited
into the dining room, where a delicious supper was served to which all did
ample justice.
The happy couple departed for their home in Chico Monday, where they were
welcomed by an ice cream festival, given by the grooms’ parents.
We all join in wishing them a happy and prosperous wedded life.

Bieber, at which time her daughter, Nancy, was untied in marriage to Abram
