Found a few things for you.
Daily Nevada State Journal newspaper Reno, Nevada
1898 July 9 Saturday page 3
An old reisdent passses away.
John W. Lyell, one of Washoe county's early pioneers, passed away on Thursday on
7th inst. at the advanced age of 83 years. Mr. Lyell, while his health permitted, always
took a lively and active interest in all State and County affairs and was one of
Washoe's substanial citizens. Of late years poor health and his advanced age
prevented fequent visits to Reno, but he endevored to keep himself posted on the current
affirs of the day. He was familiarly known as "Uncle Billy" and always had a
kindly greeting for everyone. By his death Huffaker's precinct loses one of its
oldest standbys and he will be greatly missed.
He leaves a number of relatives to mourn his loss.
The funeral will take place from the family residence this Saturday afternoon at two
o'clock and the interment at Huffaker's cemetery.

There is a tombstone website with the names of the Lyell's and even pictures. Some
websites won't open but do this and you should have success.
Go to Google, Key in
www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/Nevada
and when the page come up click on nevtombstn.html. It will give you The tombstone
Transcription Project for Nevada.
On the Reno/Tahoe Territory click on Washoe. When that comes up go down to Huffakers.
Neat pictures on the cemetery with them in it.
I am a docent researcher at the Nevada Historical Society here in Reno. We have a census
data base that is great.
www.nevadaculture.org.
Click on the census date base. When you find a name click on that for the image. At
the top of the page you will see browse adjacent records. When you click on that it will
give you the people in the household with them on the census. You can search from 1860 to
1920. Key in Lyell and it will give you all the names. The 1900 census has birth month
and years.
You can find Lucy J age 74 with John age 38 in Washoe, Browns in the 1900 Nevada census.
I will get back to you with more informaton on the Lyell's and the Holcomb families.
Regards, Arline in Reno
