The family that Laine is refering to is indeed Illidge, not Ellidge. I
know, because the William Illidge she is looking for is my great great
uncle. I have done extensive family history research on the Illidges and
have traced them back to England. The following is the basic history of
how this particular branch of the Illidges came to the U.S.
George Alfred Illidge and Elizabeth Jaques Illidge traveled to New South
Wales, Australia from England in the 1840's, following one of George's
brothers who had been deported for stealing. George and Elizabeth left
N.S.W. for the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii) where they stayed for a few years,
then moved to Oregon in the mid-to-late 1850's. Once here in the U.S. George
and Elizabeth and their children settled in Nevada and California as well
as Oregon and other western states.
I have lots more information on the this particular branch of the Illidge
family. If anybody is interested please don't hesistate to contact me at
denam(a)inreach.com.
