Message Board Post:
Dear Lloyd,
I am searching for information about Richard B. DAVIS who lived in Dayton, Goldfield
(Douglas Camp), and Tonopah. He died in CA in 1929 and is buried in Tonopah. He married
Mary Melinda LOTHROP of Dayton, daughter of John LOTHROP and Emma STRICHER LOTHROP. Mary
had a brother James D. LOTHROP. James and Richard were business partners in the
Lothrop-Davis Company. Mary and Richard adopted two daughters, Isabelle (Isabell,
Isabelle) DAVIS, alter Isabelle JACKSON, and Elizabeth Amy DAVIS. The last I heard of
Elizabeth Amy was in the 1920 census, Tonopah. The last I heard of Isabelle was that she
and her husband, Lester J. Jackson were living in Lewiston, Montana in 1917.
I'm hoping to find more information and documentation about the lives of these people
and the Lothrop-Davis business. I've found large trees concerning the ancestors of
John LOTHROP and Emma Ancy STRICHER LOTHROP, but I'm more interested in 1865 and
onward. I've had good luck with the census records for the most part. I'd like
business information, obits, birth and marriage announcements, photos, etc.
A couple of your postings caught my eye. The first is an obit for Lorrie LOTHROP ROVETTI
HARWOOD, daughter of George and Lena LOTHROP, posted on 5 Jun 1998. There is a Georgie
LOTHROP, March 13, 1865 - June 9, 1931, buried in Dayton, NV that is a relation to John
and Emma LOTHROP and therefore also to their daughter, Mary Melinda LOTHROP DAVIS. Lorrie
may be Georgie's daughter.
Another posting was regarding SWITZER photos. On another side of the family, I've
been researching the surname HAWK. There is a large, well documented, line of HAWK and
SWITZER relations, but I haven't proven that they are "mine." There is a
book published about the line, Hawk family genealogy Author Walters, Patricia
Notes Includes Condit, Switzer, and related families.
Genealogy of early Hawk family of Virginia. Isaac Hawk (ca. 1758-1840) was born near
Winchester, Virginia. His half brother, Jacob, (1764-1849) died in Vinton County, Ohio.
Descendants lived in Ohio, Iowa, and elsewhere. There is a large number of board
inquiries about this family group that can be found at
