This historic cemetery dates its roots back to 1865. The cemetery is commonly
called the "New St. Thomas" cemetery because of the many persons who were
reinterred here due to the creation of Hoover Dam and Lake Mead in the 1930s.
When the dam began to block the Colorado River and form Lake Mead, two towns
were doomed to be buried under the waters of Lake Mead, Nevada....Kaolin and
St. Thomas, both in Clark County. Most of the persons buried in the cemeteries
of Kaolin and St. Thomas were reinterred to the cemeteries in Logandale, Overton
and the 'new' St. Thomas Cemetery, which is just south of Overton, Nevada.
Today the cemetery is home to those who were reinterred from Kaolin and St.
Thomas, as well as their descendants.
