Surname: RIEHM, SULLIVAN, BURKE, COMSTOCK, PIDGE, WHELAN, DEZARATE, RAWSON,
DANDURAND
-------------------------
Looking for information about the following, all of whom have Storey County
connections:
1. Mary BURKE (b. March 1844, Sydney, Australia; d. Dec. 21, 1884, Reno)
m. Mathias RIEHM (b. June 1836, Chicago, Illinois; d. ca. 1927) ca 1869
in (San Francisco?) California; moved to Virginia City sometime in the
1870s. Children: Edward Redmond (1869-1872), Grace (1871-bef. 1881?), Edward
R. (1872-1948), James Sereby (1874-?), John M. (1875-ca. 1953), Francis
(1877-?), Elizabeth V. "Bessie" (1878-ca. 1955), Nellie (1880-?), Grace
(1881-1944).
Edward divorced after 1926; wife's name unknown
John M. m. Cordelia DANDURAND LaFRANCE (see below) in 1906; one child,
John Rex (1909-1989); divorced about 1915.
Bessie m. Zebina RAWSON; one son; d. Yerington, NV.
Nellie went to Australia in 1889 with her maternal aunt Maggie MOORE
WILLIAMSON; may have stayed there.
Grace m. Albert O. DeZARATE (1878-1958); d. San Francisco. Her death
certificate gives her year of birth as 1881. There was a Grace Riehm b.
1871 in the 1880 Virginia City census. I haven't found a death date for
the first Grace Riehm so I'm not sure if this was the same person or not.
2. Ellen SULLIVAN (half-sister of Mary BURKE) (1846-1890) m. Sam PIDGE
in 1867 in Virginia City. One son. Sam Pidge may have been a saloon owner
-- the reference to his business activities I found in the "Journals of
Alfred R. Doten" was a little unclear as to whether he owned a saloon or
was a creditor of a saloon.
3. Francisco (yes, Francisco) SULLIVAN (half-sister of Mary BURKE, full
sister of Ellen SULLIVAN) (1859?-1928) m. John F.O. COMSTOCK (1852-1917).
Not sure if John COMSTOCK was a near relative of H.T.P. COMSTOCK or not.
Two sons survived to adulthood: James and George; two grandchildren, Frances
and Virginia.
4. Mary, Ellen and Francisco's mother, Bridget WHELAN (BURKE) SULLIVAN,
had a sister living in Virginia City in the 1860s; unfortunately I know
nothing else about her. :/
