I hope someone can help me because I have spent enough time and money trying to ask Storey
County for help and getting wrong information. I am looking for a Storey County probate
record that I know exists because the notice of it was published in the Territorial
Enterprise. I phoned the Storey Co. Recorder's Office and was told by the woman on the
phone that she didn't know if they had 1874 probate records and to check with the
state archives. I replied that I had just done that and was told by the state archives
that they do not have probate records, that they are kept at the county level. I was then
directed to the Storey Co. Clerk's office who asked me to put my request in writing. I
did. I just got their written reply in a form letter with a list of genealogy resources
and the NV State Library & Archives was highlighted and the State's Vital
Statistics Dept. was highlighted. No explanation attached. I know that Vital Statistics
are death and birth records, not probate. !
These probate records EXIST AT THE COUNTY LEVEL. Why I am not getting cooperation from
the county staff who are responsible for the care of these records? Is there anyone local
that is reading this and can call the county and request an explanation? Doesn't
Storey County have an interest in perserving history? Have other researchers found probate
records - if so, where they are the Recorder's office or the Clerk/Treasurers?
