November 5, 1864, Virginia City
"I was awakened by two pistol shots and went down to Asa Wangaman's where Abe
Bateman and Mr. Burke got into a quarrel about politics. Burke drew his derringer to
shoot, Batman drew his revolver and did shoot narrowly missing Burke's head. As he
shot the second time his hand was thrown up by someone and the shot went through the
ceiling. Burke didn't get to shoot at all."
July 8, 1871 Virginia City "Irish Exiles Luby and Burke arrived this evening and they
were escorted into town from the Gieger Grade by theEmmett and Sarasfield guard. Col.
Thomas Burke lectured at Miner's Union Hall, Gold Hill on the necessity of Irish

January 26, 1892 Virginia City "Wrote nice obituary article on the death of Thomas
Burke, who died at 1:00 AM today at Sister's hospital from an accident in the Utah
mine where he was at work last Thursday, both legs being badly broken by the upsetting of
a car of ore or waste."

Exempt Association, President, Bart Burke.
June 15, 1896 Virginia City "Bart Burke bound for California leaving Virginia for
good. Lived here as long as I have but now don't want to stay any longer and die with

Harry Day and his landlady May Williams. Miss Jesse Burke a pretty lady of 14 was also
invited.
