Alfred Doten was a reporter, working for the Territorial Enterprise and the Gold Hill
News. Many of his newspaper items have passed almost verbatim into collections of Comstock
anecodotes. The 79 leatherbound journals that form the center of the collection stretch,
with scarcely a missing day, from March 18, 1849 to his death on Nov 11, 1903. These
journals contain a little bit of everything: note for newspaper pieces; account books;
reminders of the day's events, public and personal. Throughout Mr. Doten mentions
people by name, sometimes it's only in passing, but just that little piece of
information for a 'searcher' could pinpoint a relative as being in this area at
this time. I've found the journals very helpful.
I will look again on the McDonald. Is there anychance it was spelled Mac? and the Kennedy,
I know we have a McKennedy in the new catholic. Is 1880 the only year to reference?
