Hi Jerry,
The surname FOREMAN/FORMAN is not listed in the 1862 Virginia City/Gold
Hill Directory. I have not found any death information (yet).
I did find these references:
October 26, 1875, lead editorial Gold Hill News
"the whole north end of Virginia City was a seething sea of flames.
Nearly every prominent business house in north middle Virginia City is a
mass of ruins. Judge Rising, Martin, FOREMAN, Daggett, Tritle, Wood,
Seeley, Mackey (prominent men) and hundreds of others in that locality,
have at this moment no shelter but the clouds."
April 14, 1875 From the Journals of Alf Doten
SANDS W. FORMAN took over editorship of the Virginia Chronicle today.
October 16, 1877 Gold Hill News
(reports) meeting of mine Superintendents relative to the Sutro Tunnel.
Those present (names included) "FORMAN, Superintendent Overman & Caledonia"
Have a lot of SMITHs, but no one from Missouri and no one named David.
If you are sure of your dates you might check the "Census Records for
Utah and California Territory 1850"
You might want to re-check your dates. Virginia City did not exist in
1849. What is now Nevada was seized by the Federal Government at the end
of the Mexican American War, 1848. Area became part of California
Territory, (Washoe County), until the Omnibus Bill of 1850 that created
the Sate of California and the Territory of Utah, (Millard County). In
1861 the Territory of Nevada (Carson County) was established and on
October 31, 1864 Nevada became a state. The town of Virginia started to
come into it's own after the first strike of 1859, and in 1861 Virginia
City incorporated and became the County Seat for Storey.
If you think it might be 1859 you might check the "1860 Census Records
for Utah Territory, Carson County," or the "1861 Territorial Census by
DeGroot" listing 16,374 registered residents, not including Indians or
transient prospectors.
