You pretty much got it. They usually shared a grubstake on one could
grubstake both of them, and they split the owrk and profits if any.

I found my great uncle in the 1910 Federal census for Nye county. He was a
miner
and worked in the quartz mine there.
I noticed that people were listed as "partners" to the head of the
household. Did they have claims that they mined or did they work together
and split what they made? You can tell I know nothing about mining.
