Hi,
I started collecting history on these two Hudgens you mentioned because they met in
Wabuska, NV where she taught. Dr. Hudgens took the stagecoach from Mason Valley to Smith
Valley and stayed awhile in Wellington plying his dentist practice. He married the school
teacher (I have copies of news articles. Alonzo wanted the wife to attend dentist college
in the Bay Area. I am happy to know she did; because I lost that part of their history.
I know Hudgens went to Tonopah for the silver strike and joined Mr. Cuttings from Reno in
business ventures. The two men amassed such a fortune in a short while. They took the
money to Pine Grove, NV (where my husband's relatives were in the 1860-70s. Somewhere
in here Doc bought a $35,000 house in Milbrae, CA. They had a son because I have the
newspaper clipping that Doc went through Wabuska, got the telegram, and left for Tonopah.
I have two photos of Alonzo and wife on wedding day; and one of her at Belmont, digging
for silver. She wears rolled up jeans.
I am finishing another small book on Smith Valley, NV., and early pioneers. I surely
consider Alonzo important enough for a few pages in the book if I can find more info.
Nobody in Smith Valley (my home) heard of him.
Now I am teaching near Tonopah (Sp. Ed. for lilttle ones) and I plan to find more about
Alonzo and wife because the newspaper microfilm is in the museum, open every day,. and not
in the library. So I may go next Sat. to read microfilm.
What info can you give me? Everything I mentioned here I have documentation for.
The other Smith Valley book is 180 pages--and this one will be , too.
I am looking for a reply. Mary Ann
