From the Nevada State Journal 1934 March 7
Fred Gleason of Reno dies after mishap.
Former officer is fatally hurt on highway near Ely.
Tonopah, March 6,
Failing to regain consciousness after being seriously injured in an automobile accident
near Ely Sunday, in which one man was killed, Fred Gleason, 62 year old Nevada cattleman
died tonight at the general hospital here.
Gleason was widely known throughout the state and was a resident of Reno. He served for
some time as a special police officer in Reno and was at one time deputy sheriff at
Goldfield. Most of his life was spent in the cattle business.
He is survived by his wife and two sons, all of Reno. Funeral arrangements will be made
later.
Gleason suffered severe injuries when the automobile in which he was riding with two other
men, whose names could not be leared, overturned on the highway 50 miles west of Ely. He
was returning to Tonopah after attending a dance in Ely. The accident occured near the
Calloway ranch. A Reno Chinese who was in the machine died while being taken to an Ely
hospital. The other occupant escaped injury.
More to follow after I check at the Nevada Historical Society about the Washoe county
posting.
Regards, Arline in Reno
