If one didn't need to eat a lot more enjoyable things could be done
other than work. I understand that. After being retired for the past
25 years I still haven't caught up on all the things put off while in
the work force.
Whenever you have time and have something you would like to share
with others anything would be appreciated .
I would like to contribute to your station renovation, how should the
check be made out and where should it be sent?
I come from a railroad family, one grandfather, two uncles and my
father all worked for the same R.R. We lived in towns not to distance
from each other and several times a year the families would gather
and railroading was always the conversation of my elders.
Even worked for the railroad myself after discharge from the service.
Problem was it was on the midnight shift and the passenger trains
coming into the yards with wheel flashing and windows lighted, full
of people going somewhere, this was before airline traffic became
common place, made me want to join them, so I didn't last long at that job.
Quit and went on the road for a national sign company. Not the large
road signs, but the little swinging sings. The company covered 24
states and we got to travel the country and meet different people
from all walks of life. Really an enjoyable experience.
However, when sent to Louisiana I fell in love with the people and
area so quit to stay in Lafayette for a year or so.
Anyway, I digress, I have railroading in my blood and like to support
the efforts made in restoring some of the old buildings and
equipment. I did get to see the renovated station in Lovelock, they
did great job on that one.

You do good work, Don.
When I'm not working day and night on our business (necessary for things
like survival) I'll send you more info from Dayton on some of these folks
and others. I have a lot of information collected about individuals,
families, etc. It is sort of "misc." organized, not made into a consistent
picture, however. For example, I have one or two obituaries for Captain
Herman Davis, and I have a lot of other misc. news, etc., items collected on
him.
