The Union Rolls that were published in the Territorial Enterprise back in the 1860's
were primarily lists of union members that were miners. Back then, they published
everything. Committees, mail waiting to be picked up, Union rolls, lodge rolls, etc. So,
in this case, it would have appeared in the paper showing all of the Union members
associated with that particular union.
By the way, Virginia City is not in Lyon County - it's in Storey County. I also have
a marriage application for a James Grady
in Storey Co. in 1878 - no idea if this the same one but thought I would pass it on in
case:
