Sarah Love Talley Born 30 Aug 1829 in Wayne County, Tenn. Death 23 Dec in Lincoln
California burial same.
She and her husband had eleven children.(only 10 listed on family tree) She was the
first white woman to live in Silver City, Nevada.
The family started out from Tennessee with six children in a wagon drawn by oxen in the
late 1850's. They had trouble with the Indians and had to give them food and clothing
to be allowed to proceed. They had to find refuge in a fort somewhere on the trail three
weeks after Sarah gave birth to her seventh child. They opened a grocery store and
boarding house in Silver City and Sarah ran it herself after her husband went on to
California. When he sent for them they went on to California and after a few years moved
to Lincoln California (near Sacramento) where they spent the remainder of their lives.
Ramsey, James, teamster, Dayton Road near Excelsior. Silver City. Notation in First
Directory of Nevada Territory 1862 by J. Wells Kelly.
Nevada did not become a state until Oct 31, 1864 so keep that in mind when searching.
Hope this helps you.
