Harry Korns, born 1883, died 1958, burial in Caliente City Cemetery, Caliente, Lincoln Co,
NV. Parents: Edwin Forest Korns, 1852-1933, Spouse: Ruth Korns 1886-1959.
The World War I Draft Registration Card Image Database:
Harry Millard Korns, born October 6, 1884, living in Milford, Beaver Co, UT. He was a
Printer, Beaver County News. Nearest to Ruth Korns, Millford, Utah. He registered as
required on Sept 12, 1918 (The last registration)
--I find about half of the date of births for this registration to be off by one year, I
haven't seen a reason yet.
The 1910 Census for Newkird, Kay Co, Oklahoma
Edwin F. Korns, age 54, born in Ohio, Ida M, 48, born in IA
Harry M, 26, born in Iowa, Editor/City Office
Ruth, Daughter-in-law, age 24.
--Census shows married "0" years, census enumerated 18 April 1910, so it appears
that Harry and Ruth married in 1909/1910, "probably" in Kay County?
The 1930 Census for Salina, Saline Co. Kansas.
Harry M. Korns, age 43, born in IA to father born in Ohio, mother in IA, Foreman/Printing
Company.
Ruth E, 40, born in Kansas
Reba R, 17(1912/1913), born in Oklahoma
A family tree identified Ruth as being Ruth Phillips, no further information. They had a
daughter, no further information identified.
Another Family tree owned by SondraCoburn,
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/16046562/person/504696691?ssrc=
identified quite a bit more information, with source identification. Reba is identified as
Rebecca "Reba" Korns, born 22 July 1912 in Oklahoma, died 21 July 1998 in
Garland, Box Elder county, Utah. She married "Living" Hards and had a son and
daughter. I sent a message to the owner of this tree to read this thread and help if
possible.
--I received an answer... The person indicated being quite removed from this family and
had no additional information.
The Social Security Death Index:
Reba Hards, born 22 July 1912, died 21 July 1998, "last residence" Garland, Box
Elder Co, Utah. The "last residence" on the SSDI is NOT necessarily where a
person actually lived. The Social Security Administration calls it simply the "home
of record." It is not necessarily where any benefit was paid to the person, survivor,
or the lumpsum death benefit (in 1972 was paid to anyone paying burial expenses, family
member, funeral home, city/county, attorney). It is sometimes the location where the
notification of death was sent to the SSA, sometimes where the lump sum death benefit was
sent. SO... while the SSDI indicates she last lived in Utah, that might not be true. Her
SSN, 555-14-3480, was issued in California before 1951.
Public records database:
Reba R Hards, born 22 Jul 1912, lived at 426 Piedmont Ave, Glendale, CA. Also identified
was Merrill and Reba Hards, from 1996 to 1999.
The SSDI shows Merrill F. Hards, born 21 May 1909, died 25 Mar 2003, "last
residence" Garland, Box Elder, Utah.
I find one reference showing Mrs. Reba Hards, 669 N. Main Street, Garland, Utah, reference
of the year of 1971.
The newspaper "The Leader" Garland, UT - Sept 11, 1958:
Merrill Hards was called to his home in Kansas during the week by the death of his sister
Mrs. Walker. He returned home Saturday.
I would suggest attempt to obtain a copy of the obits of Merrill and Reba.
The Los Angeles County Public Library does obit lookups, as of 1/25/2011:
"We do look up obituaries for the public. Just send us the name(s) of the deceased,
date of death and any other information you may have. Our policy is 3 look-ups per
customer per month and there is no charge for this service. We would get back to you when
the search is completed - usually a week or two.
Sincerely, Kathy Nieser/Reference Services, County of Los Angeles Public Library, 12350
