John Mellander of Galena, Lander county, passed through yesterday homeward bound from the
Midwinter Fair.

Charles Mellander, an old and highly respected citizen of Galena, Lander county, died at
his home last week after an illness of several months. He was a native of Sweden, aged 52
years. He leaves a widow and six children, also a brother, JOHN MELLANDER, one of the
first white men in Humboldt county, to mourn his loss.

John Mellander of Galena, Lander county, remained over yesterday on his return from
California where he had been with a lot of ores. He is working the Buena Vista mine in
Galena, which carries gold, silver and lead. In the once lively camp of Galena there are
now only a few inhabitants and Mr. Mellander is the only one who is working mines at
present.

He is on the 1880 Census Galena, Lander, Nevada in the Robert Mc Beth and family
household.
John Mellander Relation Other marital status single, gender Male Race White age 53 from
Swedem Occupation Miner, mother and father both from Sweden.
Regarding his brother Charles and his wife Amelia:
1880 Census Galena, Lander, Nevada Dist 25 I find both of them with two children, Della
and Frankie

1900 Census Galena, Lander, Nevada I only find Amelia, Widowed with 5 of her children.
1910 Census Watsonville Twp, Santa Cruz, California I find Amelia 52 years old with two
children Raymond and Alice
(Her son Frankie is employed by Walter G Moore and in house hold is Green S Moore. That
is Amelia's father)
1920 Census Watsonville, Santa Cruz, California Amilia (spelled with and I) age 61 years
is with 4 children. Frank C, Lola, John r and Alice M.

(Same listing is a Mellander John R (Eliz: Mellander & Cutler) serv sta 659 Main.
This is not our John as he would not be alive in 1926 we assume.
I have not been able to find John in other Census reports. I will keep checking and see
if the name is mispelled. I have not found a death notice either. I will check Lander
County newspapers later to see if I can find one.
