A couple more blurbs, both from the Silver State, for which I'll provide
complete dates at a later date; I'm in the process of matching photocopies
with notes in notebooks:
"Trampled to Death by a Steer -- C. Ryan, of Camp McDermit, informs us that
Frankie, the seven-year-old child of Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Baber, was killed by
a frightened and infuriated steer near that place last week. The boy, who
was unusually bright and intelligent for one of his age, was in the corral,
in which was a steer, which became frightened and maddened, and ran over
him, trampling him to death. The bereaved parents, who have the sympathy of
the whole community, are broken-hearted over the loss of their loved one."
From a personal column, 1877: "Miss Clara Lovejoy, duaghter of
Germain
Lovejoy, an old resident of the county, arrived here yesterday from
Illinois, with the intention of remaining in Humboldt. The father and
daughter, who is now a grown woman, had not seen each other since she was
five years of age."
