DEATH OF E. J. BEEBE
On Wednesday, March 5th, 1924, the friends of E. J. Beebe were grieved
to hear of his death. Mr. Beebe was a native son of not only the State
of California but also of Modoc County. He was born in Cedarville on
July 7, 1873 and spent his entire life in the immediate vicinity of his
birthplace. One February 26, 1903 he was united in marriage to Grace
Rinehart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Rinehart, also well known as long
time residents of Cedarville.
To this union were born a son and daughter, both living, Vancel and
Katherine, who with their mother share the grief for loss of their loved
one.
For a long time, Mr. Beebes hold of life has been a slender thread. He
has been afflicted for many years with chronic heart trouble and the
issue was known to be impending. On the date mentioned, the harvester
came and husband, father went peacefully to rest. The funeral was held
at the Methodist Church on Friday, March 7th at 1 oclock p.m. and was
largely attended by a host of friends.
Mr. Beebe was one of the sturdy and solid businessmen of Surprise
Valley, a good citizen and a kind father. He will be missed for his
chair and place are vacant.

WEDNESDAY MARCH 26, 1924
Last Thursday evening, about six oclock a couple of earthquakes, heavy
shocks were felt at Eagleville, and while it created considerable
excitement, no damage was done. Its trend was from northeast to
southeast and evidently side tracked Cedarville, as no shocks were felt
here.
Last Thursday Dionisio Echeverico and Ann Horan were united in marriage
at the Catholic Church. Rev. Father Connors assisted by Rev. Father
McCarthy, officiating. The ceremony was witnessed by a few friends who
accompanied the couple from Surprise, where they reside. The Rev.
Fathers came up from Susanville to unite the couple and returned the same
day.
George Penland arrived here from Oroville last week and reports the roads
are good from here to Redding, and he made the trip from Red Bluff here
in one day. He also reports that the ground in the Sacramento valley is
so dry that they have to irrigate it before they can plow it. Get onto
that, you Modockers, and quit howling.
Bert Spicier and Mrs. Hazzie Scott, both old residents of Alturas and
both deservedly popular people were untied in marriage at the home of the
bride last week. Rev. Hamby officiating.
