I got copies of obits for W.O. (Sr) and Clara Baber today. Highlights:
"W.O., Sr. was 74 years at death on Aug. 18, 1930; had been a resident of
Humboldt county since 1873; death following illness resulting from cancer of
the liver. In 1890 he moved to Santa Barbara and lived there 4 years before
returning to McDermitt, buying a hotel and operating same until 1919, as the
Nevada hotel. He retired in 1920 and went to southern California and later
resided in southern Oregon. Last year he moved to Sparks until coming back
here in August. Survivors include wife, Clara; son, W.O., Jr; grandson and
wife, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Baber; and sister Mrs. Luela Graves of Petaluma,
Calif. Clara was referred to as his former wife and that she couldn't attend
funeral due to her own ill health." Obit for Clara: "Clara Baber, 79, owner
and proprietor fo the Orevada hotel in McDermitt, died Sunday at her home.
She married W.O. Baber in 1880 and had a son in 1881. Survivors listed were
her only son, William, Jr, brother, Owen Lovejoy of McDermitt; a grandson
and a geat-grandson and a foster daughter, plus distant relatives in Oregon.
Funeral rites will be held in McDermitt, with burial in Winnemucca." I'll
mail you hard copies of these and W.O., Jr's. on my next trip to the post
office. I didn't get the anniversary article copied yet. I took pictures
of the tombstones today, but was kind of cloudy so don't know if they'll
turn out. Won't get them developed until next week.
