Hi:
Am doing some research on Humboldt County Nevada and just picked this book up today:
Title Humboldt County, 1905 written by Allen C. Bragg. Published by The North Central
Nevada Historical Society in 1976.
Mentions: Mr. & Mrs. C. P. Hoskins on pages 35, 36
Allen traveled Humboldt county in 1905 and this is from Chapter 11 Northwestern Humboldt
County.
Here one comes to Kane Springs, or Amos, kept by Mr. and Mrs. C.P. Hoskins. We arrived
shortly after 6 o'clock, washed and presently supper was announced. We went to the
dining room and sat down to as fine a supper as can be prepared in any kitchen in the
land. Let me give you the menu; nice crisp fried potatoes, tender ribs of veal, corn,
tomatoes, apricots, hot biscuits, sweet butter, coffee and cookies. For a hungry man
nothing could be more appetizing. Mrs. Hoskins was very attentive and made us feel
perfectly at home. Mr. and Mrs. Hoskins have Kane Springs Station leased for a term of
years from the Hardin Estate. It is one of the most popular stations on the road.
Connected with the station are about twenty acres of land seeded to alfalfa on Chimney
Creek, three miles distant, besides a garden plot where fine potatoes, onions, beets and
other garden truck is produced. The station has great big corrals, with high willow
fences about them, used as feed pens for feeding the many head of fat cattle on their way
to the markets of the works, good barns, a comfortable house with poplar shade trees in
front. Mr. and Mrs. Hoskins have four children and are exceedingly pleasant people to
meet.
Just a little bit more for your research. If you need more please let me know. I do
research at the Reno Nevada Historical Society and would be glad to look things up for
you. I am not related to the Hoskins.
