Subject: Cens_Assist: An announcement for all American Indian researchers
Hello everyone!
I would like to make an announcement to all of you that are researching
your
Indian ancestry....
The USGW Census Project hosted by USGenNet has a *NEW* section...Native
American...for all American Indians...
http://www.us-census.org/native/index.html
Our project was set up to provide FREE unrestricted access to researchers
and a safe repository for all records. We are a non-profit organization
and
have been incorporated as such so that if something should ever
happen(and
I
hope it never does) to us, any records we have on file will be (must
be...by
law) given to another organization set up the same way. They will
NEVER
be
for sale to anyone at any time. We DO NOT own any of the records on
our
site...the transcriber is the owner of the copyright on any material they
transcribe.
Sue Soden, our Project Coordinator, has set up pages which are
indexed by tribe and then year on this site. There is also a search
engine
on our website so all records are available with this feature as well
making
research even easier. My profound thanks to her for the fantastic,
and I
do
mean fantastic, job she has done.
There are many records out there for the American Indian researchers, but
most of them are unknown or unavailable to a great many researchers. We
hope that by offering a centralized place to make these records available
to everyone it will make that research much easier for all. That is the
easy part....now the hard part comes in getting these records transcribed.
For that, we need volunteers. People like you who are willing to sit down
and transcribe the materials that are available and then have someone
proofread it (we are all human and we all make mistakes) and then submit
it
so that it will be available to ALL researchers.
Please visit our website at
http://www.us-census.org and look it over.Our
pages will tell you a little more about us and what we are doing. They
will
also tell you about what is necessary and how to do it. We hope that
it
will
interest you enough that you will volunteer to help us accomplish our
goal
of getting these records online for everyone to be able to research for
free.
If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a line and I will
do
my best to answer them for you.
