Subject: [USGenWeb-SW] Volunteer
My name is Phyllis Rippee. I was born and raised in Greene County,
MO and
am a Wright Countian by choice. My educational background includes a B.S.
in Education from Southwest Missouri State University...with 42 hours in
History and 40 hours in English. I also have some post-graduate work in
Library Science.
I have been the CC for Wright County, MO since June 1998 and have added
quite a bit of data on the site since becoming CC. I work for the Wright
County Historical Society, so my job and my volunteer status in the
Project
coincide with each other.
I ran for NC in the last election. I ran because I felt that there was
too
much secrecy portrayed as being the norm. Whether there actually was
all
that secrecy, or whether it was just an appearance, I do not know. I do
know that so far the current AB is operating in the open and I would very
much like to be a part of keeping it that way.
Selecting a SW/SC representative is the number one priority and is in the
process of being taken care of. An item that I would like to see is the
establishment of a Project newsletter, with an editor that present the
news
without bias....no political slant. It would contain articles on
what
the
AB is doing; technical "toys" available for use; tips from
us "old" CCs
that
the "newbies" might find helpful; and maybe even a
"suggestion box"
section.
If not, the AB should consider the establishment of a suggestion box
with
the simple rule that the suggestions be thoughtful, workable and pollable
by
the EC
I also feel that the grievance process needs to be studied and suggestions
made to insure that all members of the USGW Project have equal opportunity
to express themselves and receive fair judgement. The mediation process
now
available is a step in the right direction, but it is only a step.
The bylaws need to be revised. I do not feel that they need to be
scrapped
entirely and a start made from "scratch." They need to be
made more
specific in some areas and there needs to be an Article added that
provides
for the recall of any elected officials by their constituents. It
has
been
suggested that term limits also ought to be established. I disagree
because
I have seen in the "real political world" cases of good
people being lost
because of these limits.
I will not say that I would make the best SW/SC CC Rep. I think that all
four of us who are running are good people. I know that I have the
ability
to listen to and fairly represent the people of this region. I have
no
other personal agenda than a deep love of the Project and I want to see it
grow into being as great as its potential indicates it can be.
Thank you.
