GENEALOGISTS WILL HOLD THEIR ANNUAL CONFERENCE IN CALIFORNIA.
From 07-10 August 2002, The Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS)
and The California State Genealogical Alliance (CSGA) Conference, will
hold
their annual conference in Ontario, CA. The topic this year is
“California: A
Goldmine of Diversity,” and is dedicated to celebrating and teaching the
ethnic diversity everywhere, especially in California. Not since 1995 has
California hosted a conference of this size.
The CSGA is composed of Genealogical and Historical Societies and
individuals who are interested in furthering its goals of preserving
records
of historical significance, providing quality education opportunities
for
the
genealogical community, and fostering communication among others with the
same goals throughout the state of California. The FGS, whose mission is
similar, is international.
Some of the Californians that are also nationally-known lecturers
include: Christine Rose, CG, FASG, San Jose; Melinda Shackleford Kashuba,
PhD, Redding; Henry Z “Hank” Jones, San Diego; Jeanie Low, San Francisco,
Wendy Elliott, PhD, Placentia;[who is also the 2002 National Conference
Chairperson]; Sheila Benedict, CGRS, Santa Ynez; [President of the
California
State Genealogical Alliance (CSGA) and 2002 National Conference Program
Chairperson]and Everett Ireland, CGRS, San Diego.
Other nationally-known speakers include Eileen O’Duill, Dublin,
Ireland;
Thomas W. Jones, Ph.D., Virginia; Dean Hunter, CGRS, AG, Utah and
President
of
the FGS; Sharon DeBartolo Carmack, CG, Colorado; George Schweitzer, PhD,
Tennessee; Jim and Paula Warren, CGRS, Minnesota; Tony Burroughs,
Illinois;

Workshops will be given by the National Archives and Records
Administration, and there will be ethnic presentations, such as Hispanic,
Native-American, European, and African-American. In the exhibit hall
attendees will have a chance to peruse the latest genealogical books, data
CDs, software and other products as well as visit with representatives of
major societies from around the world.
