Hello to all,
Humboldt and Pershing Counties checking in.
Just last this past June I did get to make the trip to Winnemucca and
spent a couple of weeks there making contacts and reading four or
five cemeteries, mostly updates.
I was able to photograph the Oravada, Pioneer and Winnemucca
cemeteries in Humboldt County. The Oravada cemetery is one of my
favorite all time cemeteries because of its location. I have it and
the photographs online now and a picture of the cemetery is on the
page also, you will see why I like it.

There are some 4000 burials in the Winnemucca cemetery and the
quantity was a challenge, but the location was the real problem. It
is on a hillside and walking up and down the hill photographing the
tombstones almost did in this old man.
I was also able to photograph the Indian cemetery in Pershing county
and am working to put that and the tombstone photographs online now.
When that is complete I'll start on the Winnemucca cemetery to get it online.
I had previously posted the Humboldt County marriages up to 1900,
from information compiled by the Brigham Young University. While in
Winnemucca I was able to pick up follow on marriage records from 1900
to 1930, so I have that work ahead of me for the winter.
The library in Winnemucca has been indexing and compiling newspaper
articles from the earliest days and I am hoping they can either go
online with that information so I can link to it or if they can't do
it at this time then perhaps they will allow me to post the
information until they can. They were among the more helpful people I
encountered although everyone I encountered was pleasantly willing to share.
I had a really nice stay in Nevada, made a lot of good contacts and
met some very nice and interesting people while there. It was a long
trip, but well worth the effort.
I hope all of you will also have an enjoyable spring and summer.

Since we are now a month into the second half of 2007, we ought to

another NVGenWeb CC roll call to see if everyone is still with us.
Please respond. Feel free to tell us about any projects you have
underway for your Nevada pages or what you did on your summer vacation.
As for me, I am just back from a marathon driving vacation. I was in
parts of 10 states in the middle of the country over a two week period
tracking down cousins. I visited cemeteries in out-of-the-way places in
Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and South Dakota, stopped at state
libraries/state historial societies in Iowa, Kansas, and South Dakota.
But, as usual each find produced more leads, so that I need to return to
the same places for follow-up searching. Some of that will no doubt be
for a trip next year.
