Maureen,
Elko County was created from Lander County in 1869. 7 counties were
formed in 1861, 1 in 1862, 1 in 1864, 1 in 1866 and 2 in 1869 (Elko being
one). As of 1999, there are 16 counties in Nevada.

Subject: Elko County
I have had a request from a young person. I am not sure of the dates
and
information he is asking for. Does anyone have this information?
"Hi. I'm a 12-year-old who is trying to put together some information on
all the counties in the US. It's an
insane task, I know, but I'm up for it. Anyway, this is what I need to
know: What is the exact date and year
that Elko County, Nevada was created? Also, if you know, what order was
it in achieving countyhood (1st
through 17th)? Thanks a lot for your help!"
Thanks for the consideration.
