It isn't adminned by some unknown person.Betty knows who admins it. it was
taken out of my hands. Both lists were given to me, but I never used
NVGENWEB as it was created by a CC with "high" intentions lets say.
There is no reason why it couldn't be used now. It is commonly said that
with no archive, an internal list nto open to the public relieves the CCs
from fear of being monitored all the time and more free to say what they
think to each other and the SC.
Just a thought.

Subject: Re: [NVGEN, Nevada Genealogy List] Too Many Nevada Mailing Lists?
Hello Robert,
The statement for NVGEN as posted is "A mailing list (part of the
USGenWeb Project) for discussing the creation of a single source for
all Nevada genealogy databases. While the principal focus of the list
is discussions among the Nevada GenWeb County Coordinators, the list
is also open to the public for general queries (e.g., help in finding
map locations, cemeteries, etc.)...." Indicating it is open to the public.
The NVGENWEB list on the other hand states only "NVGenWeb internal
use." which indicates only NV members should be subscribed. However,
I doubt that is the case at this time as I subscribed without
providing any proof that I was a NVGenWeb member.
I believe the NVGENWEB should be the official list to which all NV
members be subscribed. It bears the Projects XX name and I believe
Rootsweb has indicated those belong to USGenWeb and can be closed to
the general public.
So, in the future. if some unexpected event should present itself and
require a list for NV members only, one would already be in place.
My own belief is that only NV members be subscribed to NVGENWEB,
however as the list administrator you might wish to make an exception
for the regional SC and CC representatives, the RAL and the NC if any
would desire to be subscribed. Also, I would vote for an archived
list as my memory is not what it used to be and it wasn't that good
to start with. The NVGENWEB list is already archived, so no change
would need be made in that regard.
Regarding the other list, NVGEN, since it is administered by some
unknown person, it would be up to that list administrator to
determine if it is to continue. If any NV members wished to join or
remain if they are already on that list, it would be up to them to decide.
I belong to both lists and don't find it inconvenient.
It seems very odd to me that a state list can be administered by some
unknown person. I would suggest the NC be contacted to advise
Rootsweb that you, as the NV SC, be the list administrator of an
official NVGenWeb list.
