Hi,
I am searching for information about Oliver LONKEY and John LONKEY. I have
information that indicates that Oliver and John were partners with the
Elliot Brothers, Henry M. Yerington, William Fairburn and Simon Dubois in
the Summit Fluming Company and operated a shingle mill and sawmill in 1868.
Here is some additional data I have:
Oliver LONKEY
born in Canada on 5 November 1832
1856 he went to California
1859 bought a sawmill in Grass Valley
1860 married May Cheverefels, also a native of Canada
1864 moved his business to Washoe until 1872
1872 sold the plant to H.M. Yerington and Captain Haney
moved to Virginia City
1882 moved to Truckee where he had purchased a mill ten years before
1882 moved with his family to Verdi but retained his lumber yards at
Virginia City and at Prosser Creek.
1901 Incorporated his business in the name of the Verdi Lumber Company
I have every reason to believe that this Mr. LONKEY would be related to the
line that I am tracing out of Canada and into NY state. Would sure
appreciate any information about this man and his family.
