1) Looking for original cemetery plot mapping for the Gold Hill Cemetery.
Steve Lawrence collected Gold Hill cemetery for USGen and also produced
a book available at the Nevada State Library. His collection gives
reference to plot/site identification. I wanted to know if site numbers
were assigned by his project or if there was an original plot/site map
to work from.
Our group is in the process of gathering support to
restore and preserve this historical cemetery in conjunction with the
extension of the historic Virginia City Truckee Railway through Gold
Hill. Pictures and records of this cemetery are scarce and scattered.
Original cemetery sported a hugh stone arch
entrance, over 1,500 residents and numerous buildings.
2) Today about 500 remain that can be identified the remaining will
have to be researched. We've identified 5 sections of this Cemetery; the
Masons, Oddfellows, Knights of Pithias, Catholic and Firemen, are there
more. Thanks, Alexis Dillon
